Injectable Fillers

A safe,  predictable and longlasting injectable material for facial enhancement has been a much sought after product for several years.  The choices today are numerous and each material has its attributes as well as shortcomings.  Areas frequently corrected with the use of these injectables are the cheeks, lips, nasolabial folds, as well as, forehead, perioral, and periorbital wrinkles.

Injectable material can be separated into those which are synthetic and those which are produced from natural sources.  The advantages of synthetic injectables are that they are permanent after placement.  Unfortunately, several of these synthetic fillers are not yet approved by the FDA for the specific uses for which they are needed and their behavior in the body once injected is still being studied.

Injectable biologic materials can be further classified into those which are derived from animal tissue (ie.Collagen) , that which is derived from human tissue ( ie. Dermalagen, Micronized Alloderm, Fascian) and that which is transferred from the patients own tissue (ie. Fat, Isolagen).  The advantages of these materials are that they are safe and nonreactive.  The disadvantage of these natural materials are that the time which they remain present in the areas of correction is variable and dependant on factors such as location of injection and amount of material required.

The injections are performed under local anesthesia with mild sedation if necessary.  Slight bruising around the injection sites can be expected, but this is of short duration and often times unnoticeable.  The injections are performed under local anesthesia with mild sedation if necessary.  Slight bruising around the injection sites can be expected, but this is of short duration and often times unnoticeable.  You may return to work following these injections but should limit heavy physical activity for at least 24 hrs and perhaps longer if a donor site is required.

Using computer graphics software we can show you how facial injections can accentuate and rejuvenate your features.  Based on our experience we can also discuss with you the best injection materials for your needs.
